Choosing Computer Monitors - How to Avoid Computer Eye Strain

Generally made of carbon frames and glass screens, computer monitors can display color, monochrome and grayscale graphics. There are different kinds of computer monitors depending on their resolution range or display device – and they affect your eyes in different ways.

Kinds of computer monitor

CRT or Cathode Ray Tube computer monitors are the most common. They are compatible with Macintosh and PC systems. Although bigger than other monitor types available, CRT monitors are still ideal for home and office use. They are also cheaper.

More expensive flat screen monitors have higher resolution, while LCD computer monitors have wider color ranges and high-contrast displays. For generating faster pixels, TFT computer monitors are available. Most of these computer monitors have built in speakers, mobile bases and security locks.

Your eyes and your monitor

Are you suffering from eyestrain from working long hours in front of a computer? Do not worry. This condition can easily be averted by adjusting your monitor as well as your usual work methods.

You can reduce eyestrain simply by adjusting the font quality and refresh rate of your computer. Make sure that your computer screen is slightly below your eyelevel and at least 20-26 inches from your eyes. Monitors are equipped with lighting systems which you can adjust to reduce glare or any reflections.

Proper cleaning is also important. Monitors that are clean and dust free are less likely to cause eye irritation.

Also take time to rest your eyes even for short periods. Walk away from your computer and look out the window. This can contribute a great deal in reducing computer strain.

A Flat Panel Monitor Blends Form And Function

When it comes to buying furnishings and items for our homes the line between form and function is often difficult to discern. Rarely do we purchase things that look bad but perform well. Instead, we seek items that perform as needed and have looks that appeal to us as well. However, when it comes to bulky computer monitors, for years we have sacrificed good looks for performance simply because we had few other options. Today, however, we have more options that combine performance with good looks, and perhaps nothing blends those two elements like a flat panel monitor.

Naturally, a flat panel monitor will provide the sharp picture and details that are part and parcel of its LCD display, but it is more than just a great picture that makes a flat panel monitor so desirable. A flat panel monitor has a great looking picture, but it looks great while providing that picture as well. Your work area can breathe a sigh of relief because a sleek, thin, flat panel monitor will provide more space than a tradition, box-like, CRT monitor.

If saving space is something that appeals to you, then you might consider a flat panel monitor that can be used as both a computer monitor and television. With the push of a button on the monitor, or remote control, you can switch from spreadsheets to sitcoms while eliminating the need for both a television and computer monitor. The added conveniences of a flat panel monitor do not end there. Many models have USB ports that are built in and easily accessible, unlike the USB ports on many computers. A flat panel monitor can make it easy to plug in and show off your new digital photos as they were meant to be viewed; in crisp, sharp, digital quality color.

It can be easy to be frightened by the price tag on a flat panel monitor. Like a television, they can cost as little as a few hundred dollars to well over one thousand dollars, but with the high cost come some savings as well. The LCD screens of a flat panel monitor use much less electricity than their CRT counterparts, and they give off less heat as well.

A flat panel monitor is not a perfect creation, however. If you are someone who enjoys high speed video games then some LCD monitors may not perform well for you. Make sure to look for a flat panel monitor that has a low response time; the lower the response time the faster the liquid crystal cell can transition from one color to another. However, if you have a flat panel monitor with a low response time, then you should be able to use it for nearly any application, and it is sure to make any application look as great as the monitor itself.

Printers which exhaust ink cartridges sooner - are not of good quality. A good way to get most out of printer ink cartridges is by taking printouts on a regular basis.
